Migrant Issues and Humanitarian Efforts

On Monday, September 16 at 6:30 pm, Jan Steinbauer will again share photos and stories from her experiences on the Arizona border in August 2018.

This presentation is a repeat of her Arizona presentation given earlier this year, but is very different from the El Paso presentation given more recently. It is about the migrant people who cross to the U.S. along the Arizona border into the Sonoran desert, and the humanitarian work being done through actions such as water drops and desert searches, plus a discussion of what happens after they are apprehended.

Jan’s Arizona border experiences included helping at a center for migrants in Nogales, Mexico; a humanitarian search in the desert; and attending a Tucson federal court session for apprehended migrants. There will be updates about changes to the border wall and situation in Nogales and how non-profit groups have responded to the flow of those seeking asylum. Suggestions for advocacy and action will be given.
